Tacoma General Hospital School of Nursing Legacy Campaign 3

In recognition of SeeSee Rigney’s loyalty and service to MultiCare and to the nursing profession, and her standing as America’s “oldest working nurse,” MultiCare invites the community to join her colleagues and the Tacoma General Hospital Alumnae Association in honoring SeeSee through donations in her honor to help establish the SeeSee Rigney Scholarship Fund as part of the Tacoma General Hospital School of Nursing Education Endowment.

Gifts made in SeeSee’s honor will help ensure a best-in-class nursing workforce at MultiCare by providing scholarships to employees currently enrolled in an RN program or current nurses who are pursuing a BSN, specialty certification or other continuous learning and leadership development. South Sound to the Inland Northwest

From the South Sound to the Inland Northwest, communities throughout Washington state benefit from the extraordinary contributions of MultiCare nurses every day. They play a critical role in shaping the experience of our patients, representing the single largest specialty workforce among our employees.

But as the current generation of nurses nears retiring age and chronic diseases begin to reach epidemic proportions across the aging U.S. population, the demand for quality, well-trained nurses has never been higher. It’s crucial for MultiCare to provide ongoing education that prepares our nurses to deliver the best and highest quality care – for today, and for tomorrow.

Tacoma General Hospital School of Nursing Legacy Campaign 2The Tacoma General Hospital School of Nursing trained generations of nurses who throughout the 20th century provided excellent leadership and extraordinary care to generations of patients. While the school is no longer open, MultiCare’s enduring commitment to education and quality nursing care lives on through the Tacoma General Hospital School of Nursing (TGHSON) Education Endowment Fund: a permanent fund created by generous gifts from the alumnae and friends to provide scholarships to nurses of all levels for continuing education and professional leadership development.

2018 marked a historic year for the endowment as it reached a total of $1 million in educational scholarships and grants for nurses. This incredible milestone was commemorated with the dedication of a bronze statue of a student nurse at Tacoma General Hospital, bridging the past with the future.

The education endowment is a promise to future generations that access to nursing education and knowledge remains at the heart of our legacy.

We have yet another historic opportunity to honor this legacy through a commemorative campaign, “Our Legacy is Their Future.” The goal for this campaign was to raise an additional $1.25 million by the end of 2020, in honor of the 125th anniversary of the founding of the nursing school. By the end of 2020, the Campaign successfully raised more than $1.8 million in gifts, exceeding the $1.25 million commemorative goal.

We invite you to join us by making a gift in support of our campaign and investing in a better future of health and healing for all of us here today and for generations to come.
